Stolzl is the text companion of the display font family, Stolzl Display, which was optically tailored to perform as a functional addition to this concept-steered font collection. Stolzl Text is a modernist interpretation of the first release, stripped of the primary stylized attributes; it is highly readable in print and on screen.
Designed to perform at various sizes, Stolzl Text is an excellent addition to the type collection. As well as Latin-based languages, the type family also supports Cyrillic. Other details include six weights, 486 characters, manually edited kerning and OpenType features. For a display alternative to Stolzl, visit Stolzl Display.
Where Stolzl Font works best
Thumbnails and covers
Stolzl Font is built to be recognised small. Three words, high contrast, and it survives being scaled to a phone screen.
Event and match posters
Display letters at full width make a date and a name readable across a room, which is all a poster has to do.
Merch and streetwear
Heavy display shapes print cleanly on fabric and stay legible when the garment moves.
Is Stolzl Font really free?
The download costs nothing and needs no account. What you may do with the font afterwards is set by its author: the license file travels inside the archive, and it is the only document that decides whether a commercial project is covered.
How do I install it on Windows or a Mac?
Three steps, no extra software:
- Download the ZIP and extract it (double-click on Mac, right-click → Extract on Windows).
- Open the .ttf or .otf file and click Install / Install Font.
- Restart the app you want to use it in — the font is now available system-wide.
What kind of work does Stolzl Font suit?
It sits in the Display Fonts group and reads as display, display fonts, free, readable. That makes it a candidate wherever those qualities help: headings, packaging, social graphics and brand work. Set it at the size you plan to use before deciding.
