Tacit is the first typeface to be the creative outcome of a PhD thesis in graphic design. The work’s main study had the aim of documenting design processes in an effort to externalize the tacit (experiential) knowledge of graphic designers. Initially the task was only to design several glyphs but the work resulted in a full typeface. Tacit is an elegant sans serif with a distinctive character and is legible at small and large point sizes
Where Tacit Font works best
Headlines and titles
Tacit Font has enough character to carry a headline on its own; set it large and keep the supporting text plain.
Brand and product names
Short strings are where this typeface is strongest — a name, a label, a cover line.
Social and video graphics
Set Tacit Font over a flat colour or a quiet photograph so the letterforms stay the focus.
Is Tacit Font really free?
The download costs nothing and needs no account. What you may do with the font afterwards is set by its author: the license file travels inside the archive, and it is the only document that decides whether a commercial project is covered.
How do I install it on Windows or a Mac?
Three steps, no extra software:
- Download the ZIP and extract it (double-click on Mac, right-click → Extract on Windows).
- Open the .ttf or .otf file and click Install / Install Font.
- Restart the app you want to use it in — the font is now available system-wide.
What kind of work does Tacit Font suit?
It sits in the Typeface group and reads as creative, elegant, readable, sans serif. That makes it a candidate wherever those qualities help: headings, packaging, social graphics and brand work. Set it at the size you plan to use before deciding.
