Free fonts for quote posters and hand lettering

A quote design is a small piece of lettering: two or three words carry the emotion, the rest supports them. This collection pairs expressive brush scripts for the key phrase with bold display and condensed faces for the words around it, which is how most hand-lettered posters are actually built.

Use them for wall prints, social quote cards, book club graphics, classroom posters and merchandise. Free to download; prints you sell are commercial use, so the license inside the ZIP applies.

Composing a quote so it reads as one image

Break the sentence into lines by meaning, not by width, then size each line by importance: the emotional words biggest, connectors smallest. Alternate between the script and the block face line by line, and keep the block lines in capitals for contrast. Align the whole stack to a centre axis and make the outer shape rectangular; ragged edges make a quote look unfinished.

Questions about fonts for quotes and hand lettering

How do I combine a script and a block font in one quote?
Give the script the emotional words and set the connecting words in small capitals. Keep both on the same centre axis and let the sizes carry the hierarchy.
Can I sell quote prints made with these fonts?
Prints for sale are commercial use and need a license that allows it; check the ZIP. Prints for your own wall are always fine.
What size should a quote print be designed at?
Design at the final print size and 300 dpi. A common choice is 30x40 cm, which also scales cleanly to A3 and A4.
